Traffic and Transportation
The Highways Agency is responsible for the maintenance and management of England's trunk roads and over 2,000 miles of motorway network.
They manage and monitor traffic conditions, providing information to drivers and dispatching Traffic Officers to traffic incidents. With the ever-increasing volume of traffic on the roads today, the Highways Agency needed to find a cost-effective solution that would allow high quality, real-time video images to be transmitted to the Regional Control Centres.
Working closely with one of our VARs a system was devised consisting of a camera, wireless router and our encoder so that superior quality, real-time video images can now be distributed to multiple viewers at the Control Centres. External agencies such as local authority traffic manager, Highways Agency staff and patrol officers can all view the same camera feeds simultaneously should an incident occur.
Using the widespread GPRS and 3G mobile networks, the system has dual access ability, allowing users to switch between the two networks. This provides the security of knowing that there is a back up in place if the connection to a particular network is ever lost.
